ABOUT DEVAN
Rev. T. Devan Franklin, III is passionate about fulfilling the calling on his life. Since his early childhood, Devan had a sense that God wanted him to do something special with his life that would require him to step outside his comfort zone and trust God along the way. From a kid who shuddered at the thought of speaking aloud, this area of weakness has become Devan's greatest passion. He has fallen in love with the art of preaching and has developed into a more than capable communicator of the Gospel.
Devan's passion developed through his devotion. He was introduced to the faith early in life and was baptized as a teenager. Through his journey of faith, Devan would continue to grow in his relationship with God, his understanding of scripture and in the development of his gifts.
Devan has served the church in various areas from the nursery to the pulpit. He was licensed (2013) and ordained (2016) at the Lake Providence Missionary Baptist Church (Nashville, TN) under the leadership of Rev. H. Bruce Maxwell. Devan served for nearly four years as the full-time Staff Minister at Lake Providence before accepting a call to pastor Bethel Missionary Baptist Church (Murfreesboro, TN) in 2019. He currently serves the Smithfork District Association as the President of the Congress of Christian Workers and Education and the Director of the Youth and Young Adult Division of the Missionary Baptist State Convention of Tennessee.
Devan is a co-author of We Have This Ministry: A New Guide for Licensing and Ordaining Ministers. He has contributed to Sunday School Curriculum for the National Baptist Convention USA, Inc. and the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship.
Devan has earned an A.A. in Religion and a B.S. in Criminal Justice from Liberty University (Lynchburg, VA), a Bachelor of Theology from the historic American Baptist College (Nashville, TN), and a Master of Divinity degree with a concentration in Black Church Studies from the Baptist Seminary of Kentucky (Lexington, KY) as a Kevin and Barnetta Cosby Scholar. He is a 2023 fellow of Princeton Theological Seminary's Black Theology and Leadership Institute.
Devan has served on several boards including the Dismas House and the Murfreesboro Achievement Foundation. He is a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. and an avid Ohio State Buckeyes fan.
The only thing that eclipses Devan's passion for preaching is his love for his family--his wife Dr. Chatoria Kent Franklin, three daughters Trinity, Isabella and McKinley Grace and his son Omari.
